The Great Paxton/Pullman debate

Written by PushingUpRoses on February 1st, 2010

In our time, there have been many great Bilps.  As you may or may not know, a Bilp refers one named Bill, following with the last name starting with P.

When it comes to notable Bilps, two come to mind.  Bill Paxton, and Bill Pullman.  Legend says that Bill Paxton and Bill Pullman are indeed, the same person.   Have you ever seen them in the same room?  The same movie?  No.  But this is merely coincidence, and evidence has proven otherwise.  Here are some pictures for proof:

Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton

For as long as man has been watching football and women have been having their periods, there has been the great Bill Pullman vs Bill Paxton debate! This is a serious matter that has not been resolved, bigger than the Mac vs PC debate, and crueler than the Super Nintendo vs Sega Genesis debate, and more entertaining than any debate on C-Span. The Question remains – Which Bilp is the better..uh..Bilp.

Lets take a look at each Bilp individually.

When I google image searched for Bill Pullman, here is what I found:

Bill Pullman Nude

Fine art at it's best!

I am pretty sure just having this picture gives him more brownie points. Or maybe it takes him down a couple notches. I’m a fairly lusty type of girl, so I was pretty impressed with Bill Pullmans ….uh…confidence. Lets look at his movie work!
Notable movies include: Independence Day, Spaceballs, and Sleepless in Seattle. …Yes, sleepless in Seattle. And he was also in “While You Were Sleeping” with Sandra Bullock! This guy has a great repertoire of chick flicks on his resume, but makes up for it by playing the President in Independence Day. He was also in “The Grudge“, but nobody cares about that. Sorry Bill Pullman. Corny? Yes, he is. After all, he was in Casper, playing that goofy but lovable “Dad” type. Versatility? Maybe, it depends. He’s covered a pretty board scope, but always falls back on that charming, kind of laid back guy. Attractive? Well, he’s got myvote for that one.

Let’s move on to Bill Paxton.

Upon google image searching him, I find this little gem:

Bill Paxton sticking his tongue out

Durrrrrrrhur.

I tried google searching “Bill Paxton nude” for consistency, but couldn’t find anything! Can you believe that!? I opted for this doofy snapshot instead, but in his defense, Paxton has played several goofy roles in his day, including the zany, balding car salesman from True Lies, opposite AWWWRRNOLD. Bill Paxton is incredibly versatile when it comes to acting and the movies he has been in; my favorite specifically is Frailty, which proved a very dark, morbid role for this goofy looking actor. Other works include: Twister, Titanic, Commando, and Aliens, and even from that short list, it already seemingly outweighs Bill Pullman.

So we have quite a dilemma here! Who is the better bilp?

Overview:

Bill Pullman: Looks pretty good semi nude, is very charming, AND he is still making movies and working. But he isn’t too versatile and tends to be typecast.

Bill Paxton: More versatile with his movies, wider range of roles to play. But he isn’t really still making movies, doesn’t have much in production, and probably doesn’t look as good semi-nude.

I am leaning toward Bill Pullman, currently. Now I know everyone is going to attack me with statements like “BUT BILL PAXTON WAS IN ALIENS AAGHKRJGHKLHFS.” Which is fine, but his acting in Twister was so wretched, I am not sure if anything can quell the pain it caused me!

So I ask you, who is the better Bilp? Let’s end this debate once and for all! Bill Pullman, or Bill Paxton?

Seem both of them in a few movies, but it comes down to ID4 Vs. Aliens. Sorry but my love of the chestbursters come first, so I go for Paxton, I <3 chestbursters.

Bill Pullman has my vote :)

You know what? This question just became harder to answer now that I've read this article. If someone were to ask me yesterday which Bill is better, I'd have said Paxton without hesitation, but now, I'm leaning toward Pullman. Not because he's uber-sexy or anything, but because I believe he's just as skilled as Paxton in both comedic and serious roles. I could easily see Pullman play Paxton's role just as well in A Simple Plan, if you've ever seen that. On top of that, Pullman was in a David Lynch movie, so I have to give him bonus points for that. Man….I think I'm going to have to go Pullman on this one.

Eff Aliens! Paxton was in Apollo 13, therefore he is WIN. (Also plays a kinda douche in Big Love, but that show rocks so it counts!)

  • LotusPrince

I still vote for Pullman. He was Lone Star, god damn it! He also played the head of the village in the Scary Movie 4 parody of…The Village. I got a kick out of his performance in that one. He was also the president in Independence Day, and a guy that was killed after a relatively short time in The Grudge! Seriously, The Grudge!

  • Biscuit

I'm still saying Bill Pullman. I had a crush on him in Casper for some silly reason.

  • neoscriptor

Paxton was useless in Apollo 13. Tom Hanks is where it's at. In sleepless in Seattle Meg Ryan leaves Bill Pullman for Tom Hanks. In Apollo 13, Bill Paxton lives because of Tom Hanks. So as far as I'm concerned we couldn't even have this debate if it wasn't for Tom Hanks.

  • pushinguproses

    God that cracked me up.

  • obscuruslupa

Pullman fer sure. I don't care what you say, he was funny in Scary Movie 4. 😛

  • http://scarlettopia.com Scarlett

Uh, everyone knows that Tom Hanks is GOD. You're not tellin' me nuthin' monumental there, friend!

Pullman's only saving grace is that he was in Newsies. Yes, I loved that movie – shutup yer face!

  • DocHolidae

how in the HELL did you leave Bill S. Preston off of this list? he is clearly the best Bilp. shame on you, sarah. shame on you.

  • pushinguproses

    I liked it too, actually.

  • pushinguproses

He is NOT an important bilp, dammit!

  • pushinguproses

Pullman was in Scary movie 4?!? WHAT!?!

  • pushinguproses

I am so glad my article made you think! :)

  • thatdoucheandrew

Bill Paxton. He was in Near Dark. 'nuff said.

  • XiY47

Well, Paxton screwed over fairy-boy in Titanic, not to mention screwing over Chris O'Donnel in Vertical Limit, therefore doling out harsh retribution to all those who saw Batman and Robin. So I've gotta vote Paxton based on those societal contributions alone.

  • cmarioaldo

BUT BILL paXton WaSs IN ALIENS!!!!!!111!!

no rly u made a good case 4 both..except for that semi nude of pullman….cheatssss!!

Why would his being in “Aliens” be a good thing? Yes, the movie itself is good, but have you SEEN his role in it? He is the cheesiest, goofiest thing ever. He has a whole big (seemingly improvised, if the poorness of the wording is any indication) speech of how “bad@$$” he and his team are, and when the ship lands, he is the first one to die. Within MINUTES. It is a horrible, horrible role, remembered only for how stupid and pointless it truly was. That's not to say Pullman can boast anything significantly more dignified, or that he has more talent or anything. But if you compare them equally, meaning one alien fighting movie against another, Pullman ended up helping to defeat the aliens in Independence Day. Paxton embarrassed himself and the Marines of the future, and didn't kill a single, much less intelligent (than the ID4 aliens, not Paxton 😛 ) creature.

  • pushinguproses

Bill Paxton is pretty known for goofy, badly acted roles. Aliens has a good reputation with most people. I think his acting was much worse in Twister, but honestly, his roles are very versatile even when he's being a doof. I could lean to either Pullman OR paxton at this point.

  • obscuruslupa

He was basically doing the same role from The Grudge and a few other parts. I'm not saying the rest of it was funny; just him, lol.

  • leahchristine

Bill Paxton might not have been in any movies lately, but he's the polygamist dad in Big Love, one of the greatest and most disturbing shows on television. He has my vote.

Paxton appeared nude in Big Love, and also nearly-nude (in a towel) in Weird Science.

  • RoyF

They were both in ‘Brain Dead.’ Don’t remotely resemble each other. Where does the notion that they are the same person come from?

  • Kat

Have you seen Aliens? He doesnt die when the ship lands. He isnt the first to die. He does kill aliens, and he was actually quite funny. I have always liked Paxton. He was great in Twister too. For best actor it is Paxton. For sexiest actor it is Pullman, hahaha.
